Kiffin gone to USC and now it appears as if Cutcliffe is going to become the new coach. I am suprised that several guys turned down the Tennessee gig, but Cutcliffe makes sense. After Fulmer, the Vols tried to find the anti-Fulmer and took a gamble with Kiffin. That gamble burned them big time. Now bringing in a guy who was a huge part of Tennessee's success under Fulmer is a good move. Its not a slam dunk by any means because Cutcliffe couldn't win the SEC West at Ole Miss and hasn't had a winning season as a head coach since 2003. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but Cutcliffe could certainly provide a steady hand in Knoxville. He knows how to score points, he knows how to recruit to Tennessee and he won't bring any negative attention to the program.

Well now it appears that Cutcliffe will not go. I think ultimately TN is better off without Kiffen, buyt they need to move fast to try and retain some of those commits that they had. I'm sure nobody is happier about Kiffen leaving than Slive at the commission. Not sure who they will get now that several ppl have turned them down. It says a lot about what kind of shape the athletic dept. is in right now.

He knows what it takes to win in the SEC, but he's never done it before as a head coach. He's certainly a safe hire in terms of PR and the NCAA.
